DOLPHIN GLOBAL TRADE Supports “Just a Drop”

November 21, 2017

Just a Drop provides drinking water and sanitisation to communities in developing countries.  Earlier this year Dolphin Global Trade took the step to support building a borehole in Funte Village, Zambia.  The project will provide clean drinking water for the village whose inhabitants currently have no access to clean safe water, resulting in waterborne disease.

The community of Funte have become fully involved by forming a Water and Sanitisation Committee (WSC) to select a suitable site and undergo a 10-day intensive training to include borehole maintenance, WASHE (water, sanitation and hygiene education) and account management.  The community is also contributing to the maintenance of the borehole, which is so important to them, by forming a capital fund and charging each household a monthly user fee.

The drilling began in October, to coincide with the driest time of the year to ensure a year round supply of water from the well.  A handpump has been installed and full water testing carried out.

Dolphin Global Trade’s support of this project is appreciated by all.

Peter Hogervorst, Managing Director and owner of Dolphin shared:  “We are delighted to contribute to Just a Drop’s work in Funte.  The children will be able to spend more time at school, and the women will have improved productivity, spending more time following other productive pursuits, improving lives into the future.”
