BWCA Conference, Trade Show & Charity Auction Gala Dinner Nottingham, 23rd March 2017

April 28, 2017

The annual British Water Cooler Conference & Trade Show this year took as its theme 'New Horizons: Plan to Win', reflecting both the challenges and opportunities ahead following the Brexit vote and the inspiration provided by the keynote guest, the motivational speaker and former British Athletics Coach, Frank Dick OBE.  The event included a presentation from
Karen Wells, Managing Consultant, Zenith Global, with the following highlights from 2016:

  • The total market continued to grow
  • It was worth £129 million in 2016 compared with £123 million the previous year – nearly 5% growth.
  • Market size in 2016 was 651,000 water cooler units compared with 645,000 at the end of 2015, an increase of 1% and the fourth successive year of growth.
  • Both bottled water coolers and POU (mains-fed) coolers have increased in numbers in the past year, but the bottled water segment accounted for the major increase in units rented.

At the beginning of 2016, the BWCA set up its first Corporate Social Responsibility programme supporting Just a Drop www.justadrop.org .  Thanks to the enormous generosity of donors, Members and guests who attended the 2016 conference, trade show and gala dinner, the initial target was exceeded so that the BWCA was able to fund its first borehole.

Kalungwishi Village in Zambia has its own source of clean, safe water and this first Just a Drop project funded by BWCA Members has transformed the lives of the 200 villagers.

Now the BWCA is delighted to report that activities during the 2017 Trade Show, the charity auction and additional donations raised enough to fund the building of a second borehole.  This was an amazing achievement, due in no small measure to the generosity of the Members’ donations.
